Amy Hubert, member of AUL's charitable committee awarded the Top Volunteer Award for Light The Night in The Greater Bay Area

May 15, 2017

Napa, CA: May 15, 2017 –  The 2017 The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Light The Night event in Napa Valley will be held on September 16th at the Oxbow Commons.

Light The Night is an inspirational community campaign that raises awareness and funding for groundbreaking research and treatment options to eliminate cancer.  Light The Night brings light to the darkness of cancer through hope, research and support for patients, families, friends, doctors, nurses, researchers, colleagues and caregivers.

Participants literally light the night by carrying illuminated lanterns – white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold to remember those who have lost their battle – to honor lives touched by blood cancer.

Amy Hubert, a longtime AUL employee, member of AUL's charitable committee and Light The Night Team Captain, was recently awarded the Top Volunteer Award for Light The Night in The Greater Bay Area.  "I could not be more humbled by this award. It is an honor to have been selected from such an amazing pool of volunteers. I have had an amazing support team for the Light the Night campaign,” says Amy.

As a corporate sponsor and team, AUL helps to lead the efforts in accelerating support and driving revenue growth for Light The Night to support LLS’s ultimate goal of creating a world without blood cancer.

Proceeds from corporate and individual contributions help to fund cures and better therapies for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to provide information, education and financial support for patients and their families.

Last year, Light The Night in the Greater Bay Area raised nearly $2 million.  With a new team, Light The Night sets the 2017 event goal at $150,000 in Napa Valley.

“We would not have achieved our goals without the time and effort of everyone involved. Everyone has been truly astounding and should have their efforts recognized. When I first started on the Charitable Committee, it was inspiring how generous AUL was. They gave us reign to donate what we felt was right. The number of charities and the amount donated has only grown over the years and it would not be possible without the support and charitable nature of this incredible company."

When a loved one hears the words “you have cancer,” it is one of the darkest moments in your life,” said Kathleen Moore, LLS Executive Director. “Through our supporters and sponsors such as AUL, we will bring light to the darkness of cancer.”

Thanks to participation in these powerful walks, LLS has been able to invest more than $1 billion in research to advance breakthrough cancer treatments that are saving lives today.  In 2015, LLS distributed over $33 million in research funding in California, as well as provided 71 local patients with over $343,000 in co-pay assistance.

Despite advances in survival rates, half of blood cancer patients do not survive.  More funding is needed to advance research and ensure access to treatments for all patients.
